ICF medicinal shampoo Chlorexiderm with 4% chlorhexidine

The medicinal shampoo Chlorexiderm with 4% chlorhexidine for the treatment of skin diseases in dogs (and cats) was prescribed to us by a veterinarian when our dog developed a bald spot on his side due to a change in food.

Actually, the treatment itself consists of washing the animal’s fur (more precisely, the skin where the hair should grow) with this shampoo. It is sold in veterinary clinics. Country of origin: Italy.

From the inscription on the bottle:

If the product gets into your eyes, rinse them thoroughly with water and consult a doctor.

After completing a course of treatment (washing) with this shampoo, a month later our bald spot was overgrown and we happily forgot about it. And about the stain and about the shampoo.

But something bad happened to us: discopathy - rupture of an intervertebral disc. An emergency operation followed. And our beloved four-legged friend ended up with a completely shaved back (they shaved his back for surgery). This was followed by a rehabilitation course. But that's another story. And the fur on the back did not grow very quickly. And I really wanted my back to grow back as soon as possible and forget the whole nightmare...

And then we remembered about Chlorexiderm medicinal shampoo. It would be better if we didn’t remember about him. And in the process of washing, a small amount of shampoo accidentally got into the dog’s eye... I’m writing and there’s a lump in my throat from the horror that began at that moment...

The eye instantly turned red (the white), and the pupil became whitish-cloudy (like in blind animals)... We began intensively rinsing the eye with water! They pulled the dog out of the bathroom and sat him on the sofa to dry. But the redness did not go away, and the eye remained cloudy. After 3-5 minutes, the dog began to close the injured eye. He began to swell and swim! We grabbed the dog and flew to the hospital to see an ophthalmologist. After 15-20 minutes, the dog could not open both eyes (as the doctor later said: one eye was damaged, but the second one closed reflexively), the damaged eye was swollen, swollen and watery. We were at the doctor's office less than an hour after the disaster. The doctor carried out all the necessary studies, tests, reactions and issued a verdict: CHEMICAL EYE BURN!!!

The eye is very badly damaged, the cornea is burned. A whitish film on the eye is a burn, it is a burned cornea. Now the dog has a swollen eye, the second one is also difficult to open. The most complex treatment awaits: washing, instilling 7 different drops and ointments every three hours around the clock (both day and night you need to get up and drip each drop at an interval of 10 minutes, so that there is time to act).

The animal received severe trauma: CHEMICAL BURN!!! Medicinal shampoo!!! Whether the eye will see is in question (now everything depends on the treatment). And on the bottle it is only so modestly written in small print on the back “If the product gets into your eyes, you should rinse them thoroughly with water and seek medical advice”!!! Such information must be written in LARGE FONT ON THE FRONT OF THE BOTTLE - DANGEROUS TO HEALTH!!! MAY CAUSE INJURY!!!

Yes, it's our fault that the shampoo got into the dog's eye! But this is an animal - it’s spinning, you can’t explain to it “stand still!” And you can’t just sell MEDICINES that can cause SUCH consequences!!!

Take care of your ponytails! And never use Chlorexiderm medicated shampoo. After all, no one is immune from the fact that an accidental splash can deprive your friend of his sight!!!
