Bathing

You can bathe your dog once every 8-10 days or when dirty. You should use a special shampoo for animals. After washing, you need to dry your dog with a towel and dry it with a hairdryer, then comb it. If you cannot wash your pet with water, you can use dry shampoo.

Important! It is not recommended to comb dirty or wet fur. This can lead to brittle hair, and the animal will look unkempt.

Health Features of the St. Petersburg Orchid

Since the breed is young, it is too early to talk about typical diseases. Breeders carefully monitor the purity of the gene pool of the tribe and provide good care so that the dogs feel good.

The small dog has a fragile skeleton, so it is necessary to monitor the health of the pet’s bones and teeth. Regular dental examinations and tartar removal are recommended. When interacting with a dog of the St. Petersburg Orchid breed, you need to be careful, do not throw the puppy off your hands, touch it carefully, especially with young individuals. These dogs are difficult to accustom to a “sporty” lifestyle.

Orchids are fed dry factory mixtures with a mineral composition. Feeding the baby from the table is prohibited, since the digestive system of artificially bred dogs cannot cope with complex food.

However, when training, it is allowed to use tasty rewards in the form of chicken and pieces of vegetables. It is permissible to add boiled vegetables to the diet in an amount of up to 10-15% of the daily food intake.

When walking outdoors, the dog must be protected from ticks with specialized drops, and also dressed warmly. The young breed has a “domestic” type of immunity, so in winter the pet can easily catch a cold.

Character traits

You should not think that decorative dog breeds are stupid - this statement is false. The St. Petersburg orchid is distinguished by its intelligence and intelligence, which is why it has such a meaningful look. These dogs love their owner, react sharply to his mood and are not intrusive.

The breed is perfect for those who want an affectionate, gentle pet. Animals are not lacking in friendliness, they do not show aggression even towards strangers, and are not jealous. The dog greets every guest at the door with great joy.

A dog can make friends with any other pet, be it a cat or a parrot. She will not take away the palm and will humbly accept the allotted place. The good thing about this breed is that it naturally has a developed desire for new acquaintances.

There is no need to blush while walking for a St. Petersburg orchid; the animal is curious, but moderate in its impulses.

If the opportunity arises, the dog will stay next to the owner 24 hours a day, but it cannot always be seen, since it will not get in the way. She knows how to sense the mood and keep her distance. The animal has an aristocratic character, so it does not fuss in vain.

The pet will be infinitely happy if everyone around him pays attention. Having felt love, he will respond in kind, only threefold.

These animals have a loving heart, so people with the same character are advised to have them.

If a dog is unloved in the house where it lives, then most likely the animal will become depressed and begin to get sick. The owner should always have time to pet the dog and play with him. These pets cannot live with a feeling of abandonment and loneliness. But sometimes they also like to be alone, so they go to a quiet corner. At such moments, you need to let the dog rest.

Character of the breed

In character, the St. Petersburg orchid is as charming as it is in appearance. These small animals are distinguished by their developed intelligence and well understand the emotional states of their owners. The dog is perky and playful, loves to meet people at the door, takes an active part in the life of the family, and offers to play. At the same time, he does not feel sad when alone, he is completely unobtrusive and calm.

The St. Petersburg orchid quickly learns the rules of behavior in the family, understands its place, masters the territory well and correctly uses specially designated places. The dog is friendly, gets along well with other pets and willingly communicates with guests. He knows how to stand up for himself and behaves nobly.

How much does it cost and how to choose a puppy

The cost of a dog depends on compliance with the standards of this breed. The price can be from 30 thousand rubles. for a boy, from 50 thousand rubles* for a girl. The figure for some individuals reaches 150 thousand rubles.

When purchasing a baby, you need to pay attention to the presence of the appropriate mark on the puppy. After 2 months of age, documents are drawn up for the dog. When purchasing a four-legged friend from a nursery, you are given a contract and an animal passport, which is a guarantee of the authenticity and quality of the individual.

Important ! You can buy a purebred St. Petersburg Orchid puppy only in the club of the same name.

Features of care

To keep your puppy neat and well-groomed, it is enough to follow a few basic procedures that do not require much effort.

The dog needs to be bathed once every 10 days and brushed periodically. St. Petersburg orchids do not shed seasonally, so they will not litter the house with wool and they will not have to be combed out of the undercoat by summer. The breed's fur grows 1 cm per month, so it needs a haircut once every couple of months.

In specialized salons you can create a fashionable, characteristic style - cut the dog’s neck, leaving the hair on the sides and legs in the style of English breeds.

Every day, the dog needs to wash its eyes with plain clean water or care lotion, and regularly clean its ears with cotton wool. Orchids' teeth are brushed once a week, and their claws are filed according to the degree of growth.

It is also necessary to clean the anal glands every few months. To do this, you will need to clean the area under the tail, squeeze out the secretion from the paired sacs and treat the area with a manganese solution.

Usually these dogs are not trained, but you can teach the puppy several commands. The dog is easily toilet trained and, due to its miniature size, can relieve itself at home without going out for a walk. To do this, it is recommended to use trays or special napkins.

At the same time, your pet still needs walks in the fresh air. In the cold season, the dog needs to be dressed for this. To stay outside, you will need a loose collar and a roller leash.

Education and training

The St. Petersburg Orchid is a smart and quick-witted dog. She is easy to train.

For these miniature dogs, the most important part of training is toilet training. This process begins when the puppy is kept with its mother. Already from the age of three weeks, as soon as the offspring takes their first steps from their mother, they begin to learn to go to the toilet on a napkin. When a little orchid gets to a new home with a new owner, everything is unusual and scary for her.

Puppies begin to be toilet trained at three weeks of age.

Toilet training algorithm:

  1. Until the puppy has adapted, movement around the apartment should be limited to one room without carpet.
  2. Next to the bed you need to put food and water and a familiar napkin nearby, which the breeder should give you when buying a dog: a familiar smell will quickly help the puppy decide on the correct behavior.
  3. When the dog goes to the napkin, it must be praised and rewarded with a small piece of treat (cheese, boiled chicken or beef tripe). If the very first time the puppy did not go to the intended place, just move the napkin there.
  4. If your pet makes puddles in the wrong place, you need to punish him, but under no circumstances hit him. For a dog, punishment is when they take it by the withers and poke its nose into a puddle. After this action, under no circumstances should you place your pet on a toilet napkin. The dog will perceive this as a ban on using this item.
  5. After a period of adaptation and obtaining the desired result, every day, little by little, move the toilet napkin to the place where you planned, or place it in the tray.

This type of training is one of the simplest and works well even for inexperienced dog breeders.

If you wish, you can teach your pet commands: sit, come to me, fu, voice. But, usually, miniature dogs are not taught this.
