The Yorkshire Terrier is a well-known breed of dog that was developed in England and then became a favorite companion animal. According to the American Kennel Club, the Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular dog breeds.
Dogs of this breed have a height at the withers of up to 20 cm and a weight of up to 3.2 kg, although some individuals can grow a little larger. They are also known for their long, luxurious coat, which is considered hypoallergenic as these dogs shed less than other breeds. But, of course, they need to be looked after regularly.
The Yorkshire Terrier is an intelligent dog breed that loves to learn. But they are not high-energy pets. This breed is ideal for those who enjoy long walks followed by a good rest. They are not particularly good with children, other dogs, or strangers, and can be quite noisy. Although, with proper socialization and proper training, the Yorkshire Terrier will grow up to be a friendly and balanced dog.
Yorkshire Terrier
Over time, the conventional purpose of this breed of small dogs has changed dramatically. The original vocation of the Yorkshire Terrier was to catch rodents in an American coal processing plant. A happy accident in the form of one noble lady who found herself at the enterprise transformed the subsequent fate of the animals. Now they are caressed and beloved pets of those who are ready to tirelessly devote their free time to them. There are three varieties within one breed: micro, mini and standard. The first ones are tiny ones weighing a little more than a kilogram; standard representatives reach three kg. The character of these dogs is peaceful, but cannot be called calm. Loud barking can be a manifestation of joy from meeting the owner or be a tireless reminder (even in the middle of the night) of the presence of a four-legged friend nearby.
Russian toy – 1.0-3.0 kg
The breed originated in Russia and was popular among aristocrats.
If you haven't heard of this breed before, we won't be surprised. Russian toy was almost completely unknown outside of Russia until the 1990s. It is similar in size to a Chihuahua, reaching up to 28 cm at the withers and weighing no more than 3 kg. The similarity with the Chihuahua is also evident in the fact that this breed has two types of coat - short and long. The ears can be compared to those of the continental toy spaniel, in which they are large and covered with long hair at the edges. The Russian Toy was bred to catch rats and be a watchdog, and as such the dog can be quite noisy. They are loyal, playful pets, good with children, and active participants in family life as long as they are treated like dogs and not toys. These bright dogs are highly trainable!
Small dogs by type
A wide variety of decorative dog breeds makes it much more difficult to choose the ideal pet for yourself. The easiest way to do this is by taking into account the type, namely:
- family - Shih Tzu and Sealyham Terrier. They get along well with children and do not show aggression, even if games make them uncomfortable;
- good-natured and calm - Lhasa Apso and Pekingese. Pets are particularly patient and love their owners;
- fluffy – bichon frize, spitz. These dogs are famous for their thick fur;
- smooth-haired - Chihuahua.
Note! The most expensive breeds are the Coton de Tulear, Dwarf Spitz and Toy Poodle. The price for a purebred puppy can exceed $3,000.

Chihuahua - 0.9-2.7 kg
With a maximum weight of about 2.7 kg, the Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed in the world. She comes from the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Chihuahuas have a round head, straight ears and round eyes. Their coats can be short or long, with a variety of patterns and colors.
Like most other dog breeds, Chihuahuas need to be properly raised and socialized from an early age. These are inquisitive and intelligent dogs that are capable of learning well. They, as a rule, single out one loved one in the family, to whom they remain faithful throughout their lives.
Like Pomeranians, Chihuahuas can be taken anywhere with you due to their small size. Dogs of this breed also love to follow people. Despite their small size, they are excellent watchdogs and will bark at anything that seems suspicious to them. Chihuahuas should not be left outside alone because they can be easily attacked by other animals.
