For every loving owner, his pet is the best, so it is possible to single out the kindest ones quite arbitrarily. But several breeds, according to dog handlers, trainers and owners, possess this quality to a greater extent.
Bernese Mountain Dog
Large (height - 58–70 cm, body weight - up to 50 kg), long-haired, tri-colored (black, fawn and white), herding dog - Bernese Shepherd, owner of a signature canine smile. The trainer will need patience and a fair amount of perseverance to reveal all the working qualities inherent in the pet by nature.
In a calm state, the muscles of the mountain dog's muzzle and head relax, opening its mouth slightly and creating the illusion of human facial expressions.
Newfoundland
The huge shaggy diver, as the Newfoundland is sometimes called, can reach a height of 74 cm, and weigh up to 70 kg, most often it is black in color (a black and white version is also acceptable). The coat is long and straight or slightly wavy with a fine, soft and dense undercoat. Under a formidable mask hides a sensitive, subtle and vulnerable nature, which has a hard time experiencing long separations and especially a change of owner. Benevolent and always ready to help, the Newfoundland is completely unsuitable for the role of watchman and security guard, but is widely used in the rescue service, in the police and for accompanying the blind . A smart dog is able to make independent decisions, is curious and is practically not afraid of anything.

A sociable and peace-loving dog, it is distinguished by its hard work and enormous drafting ability. It is vital for an active animal to run around in open spaces, which limits the possibility of comfortable living in an apartment . Short, thin wool of red or brindle colors does not require special care, but does not warm well. Dogs do not like cold weather, because they can catch a cold. Spending a long time outside in bad weather is contraindicated for them.
The German Boxer is a cheerful fellow with a warlike appearance, who simply needs discipline and boundless love from his owners.
Labrador
The Labrador Retriever is considered the most popular and versatile canine breed, used in gun hunting, customs, police, rescue service and as guide dogs. A strong, medium-sized animal (height at the withers 54–57 cm and weight 25–40 kg) with a short double coat consisting of hard guard hair and dense down, solid color (chocolate, fawn, black). A very active pet with a good and accommodating character, incredibly docile and friendly, tries to please people in everything, never showing irritation or aggression. However, he cannot tolerate loneliness at all; boredom and melancholy can be destructive.

The Irish Setter, like its brothers (English and Scottish), belongs to the hunting working dogs, specializing in poultry work. The dog is not too large (weighing 27–32 kg and height at the withers no more than 67 cm) with long, smooth and silky brown (chestnut) coat. A super active and sociable pet with an inexhaustible supply of energy and a variety of emotions, remaining active until a very advanced age. A charming pet with hazel eyes looking straight into the soul, he is distinguished by increased activity and genuine good nature. A curious dog, seduced by a new smell, can run very far and even get lost . Left alone with himself, he chews the owner's slippers, tears wallpaper, gnaws furniture, because his irrepressible energy finds no other way out. The process of education and training will require a lot of effort and patience.
The Beagle is a breed of hunting dog with a perky and cheerful character.
Maltese
Maltese (another name for the breed) is a miniature (no taller than 25 cm and weighs no more than 4 kg) lap dog with flowing, very long (20 cm or more), silky and thick coat of pure snow-white color. The luxurious coat must be constantly brushed (at least once a day) to prevent tangles from forming. It requires a lot of attention, constantly hovering around its owner's feet . Extremely easy to train, capable of learning and successfully performing quite complex tricks.
The Maltese is a sweet, cheerful, gentle and very playful small dog.
One of my good friends had to take an adult Maltese into her home for permanent residence, whose owner was constantly traveling and was forced to leave the pet in dog hotels or with friends. The dog coped with the change of owners very easily, instantly adapted to its new home and was absolutely happy. She is an affectionate little girl, and she weighs only 1.2 kg, she doesn’t get out of her hands and constantly rubs herself around people.
Maltese
Another tiny breed is the Maltese. It is perfect for those who have allergies, as it hardly sheds . The lapdog will always be on good terms with all household members and other animals, including cats.
These dogs cannot go long without human attention, so it is very important to always be close to your pet.
Pug
These small, stocky dogs are very friendly and patient, require a lot of attention and become very attached to people.
For whom. A pug is a good friend for a preschooler. He is willing to play (but not for too long) and is easy to train. And thanks to its small size, the dog will become an excellent companion on any journey (from a bike ride to a long trip).
Peculiarities. Despite their short hair, pugs shed a lot, so this breed is not suitable for allergy sufferers. The folds on the dog's face need to be constantly processed and cleaned, which also adds to the hassle. The little cunning creatures also prefer to sleep in bed with their owner and snore lightly in their sleep.
Bichon Frize
The Bichon Frize is one of the most attractive and playful dog breeds that always strives to please a person. The breed is known for its love of children and other pets.
They are also known as animals that like to bark too much when alone. Therefore, it is important to give them enough attention and care.
What parameters can be used to determine a good dog?
Of all the animals domesticated by mankind, dogs are perhaps the most grateful pets. They love their owners completely unselfishly, comprehensively and sincerely. Domesticated dogs are the only ones capable of following the direction of a person’s gaze and have empathy, allowing them to guess the mood, emotions and even intentions of people. The individual character of a pet is formed based on the following factors:
- host relationships;
- timely and competent education, as well as training;
- the amount of attention and time devoted to the pet;
- genetic characteristics.
In principle, almost any dog can be raised to be kind and flexible; a lot depends on the owners themselves. But there are breeds in which this quality is innate . The concept of dog kindness implies:
- friendliness towards one's own owners, especially children, other pets and strangers;
- cheerfulness;
- peacefulness;
- friendliness;
- lack of aggression towards anyone;
- softness and affection;
- safety for others.
Any breed can have dogs with “deviations.” You can’t say categorically: these dogs are good and those are evil. Any assessments are a subjective matter, a matter of taste and preferences. And most importantly: the character of any dog largely depends on its upbringing, on what its owner teaches. In addition, dogs, like people, can be choleric and phlegmatic. Many large dogs only look menacing in appearance, but in reality they are generous and friendly people. And, conversely, small dogs of indoor, decorative breeds can turn out to be hysterical, uncontrollable, and aggressive. The same Pekingese, despite its harmless and cute appearance, can easily bite even its owner if he doesn’t like something...
