How to train a dog to toilet outside and how long can it take?

As a rule, the main factors influencing the duration of training for a four-legged friend are the age of the dog (puppies learn faster than adults), physiological characteristics (it is difficult for a dog to cope with a natural urge if he suffers from incontinence or cystitis), and also the behavior of those who tamed an animal - the success of the undertaking depends on the chosen tactics.

Interesting fact

A number of dog breeders associate the habit of doing their business at home with the duration of the animal’s “exclusion” from the street at a very young age. Let us remind you that after all the necessary vaccinations, the puppy must withstand a kind of quarantine (not see other dogs). Therefore, many owners begin to take their children for walks when they are 3-4 months old. And during this period we are dealing with a pet who has clearly learned that his toilet is at home in a diaper or in a tray. Naturally, he will not walk on the street - this contradicts his already formed way of life.

It is difficult to retrain a child if the habit has become second nature. You need to take your puppy for a walk - you don’t have to leave him in captivity at home. You can also avoid the company of other dogs while walking - the main thing is not to visit places where other owners walk their pets. Otherwise, you are given complete freedom of action. When the baby sits down on the grass, do not pull him back or disturb him - let him do his job. And then be sure to praise and don’t forget to give a treat - such encouragement will help you quickly get used to new conditions.

A few lines about Canada, the province of Quebec

It must be said that Canada is a multinational country. Immigrant people still adhere to the traditions of their countries. It is very difficult to find out what is typical of Quebecers, but I will try.

I’ll write as thoughts come in :) Children don’t go for walks much. Or rather, who has a house with a garden, children spend a lot of time in the yard, who has an apartment, then the child will sit at home, it is very rare to see a mother with a stroller on a walk. Most likely, mom will go to a cafe for a walk. You won't find two mothers walking together here. If they do flash by, 90% of them can be said to be Russian-speaking! And it’s absolutely incredible if the baby breathes air on the balcony! One winter, when it was about -5 outside, my friends put the child out to sleep on the balcony; at that time a local couple was visiting them. So they constantly walked around and looked to see if the child was alive there? And they didn’t understand why he was sent to sleep in the cold! But they go out into the world with their children from birth. Just the other day in a large store I saw a mother with a tiny baby, I asked her age - they answered that it was only a week! Mom was shopping in full as usual. I’m not talking about cafes and restaurants; children go there at least 2-3 times a week from birth. I’m always surprised how people’s children sit calmly at their tables?! Because my two toddlers start running everywhere, throwing everything around, and a trip to a restaurant ends with me running back and forth, stuffing at least something into my mouth during breaks! So we limited ourselves to the bakery, where there is a super soft sofa for the kids to crawl on and for me to sit and drink coffee! By the way, here you will not find a restaurant with a play area for children. So apparently, somehow children are taught to sit straight on a chair in a restaurant. How? I don't know!:)

My eldest daughter and I attend ballet classes; I go there with my youngest son, since there is no one to leave him with. My daughter studies for 55 minutes, during which time we either walk or walk along the corridors if the weather is bad. My son doesn’t sit still, and I don’t think he’s an active child. But we run 100 laps in the corridor. Children of other parents can sit in the stroller all this time. No one else is running around the corridors except us. By the way, mothers start going to classes with their children from the age of 3 months. I myself took my eldest to swimming at 4 months. For example, there are music classes from 9 months, ballet from 2.5 years, etc. People love to take their children to clubs, sometimes the whole family can come. Dad, the “hero,” as I called him, took his daughter to the ballet with us. He has 4 children, 1 was studying, the other 3 were waiting in the corridor. Yes, until the age of 12, a child cannot be left at home alone! And, by the way, here you cannot use violent methods against a child, i.e. slapping the butt is illegal! But we really don’t suffer from this, since we ourselves believe that clapping is of no use. And here you will not hear a mother screaming hysterically and scolding her child; firstly, it is also prohibited by law, and secondly, it is not accepted in society. Sometimes in Russian-speaking areas I meet our mothers who yell at their child because he has done something, somewhere. The locals look at all this with great surprise; it’s good that they don’t understand our language, otherwise they would still be surprised why the mother snapped at her baby. By the way, in the maternity hospital you sign a paper stating that if you have a seizure, you will not shake your child, as this can lead to brain injury, etc. They advise you to leave the baby in the crib, leave the room, take a breather for 5 minutes and return with a smile!

Children sleep in their cribs from birth. They are taught through tears. Those. If a child cries at night, they won’t go see him, they’ll leave him to calm down. Also with kids. The kids and I used to sleep together, and often to this day, the eldest, who is now 4 years old, can wake up at night and I go to her and we continue to sleep together in an embrace. The locals don't understand me. In their opinion, the child himself must cope with his fears and fall asleep on his own. Also, when bedtime comes, they lock the child in his room and leave him to fall asleep on his own. If he cries, they don't pay attention. By the way, after some time, children actually learn to fall asleep on their own. And it is considered normal that a child cries and copes with his problems on his own. It is very difficult for our mentality to cope with this; we are very protective and protective of our children. Maybe that’s why it sometimes seems that local children are more independent. By the way, this is the norm when a child at 18 years old can leave home to swim freely. Start earning your own living. Although I know paradoxical cases when, although a child lives separately, his parents help him financially and can, for example, give him money for a new car on his 30th birthday, implying that the money does not have to be returned. In general, it seems to me that our attitude towards children is that now we invest in them to the maximum, then we wait for an answer that the children owe us. Here no one owes anything to anyone, children, it’s part of life, but parents never think that, for example, in old age, children will have to help and support them. People themselves rely on their own strength for old age and teach their children to save for their retirement from the very first earnings!

In general, children are sent to kindergarten from 10-12 months, since maternity leave is only a year and begins to count from the first day of maternity leave. That's why pregnant mothers work until 40 weeks :) In kindergartens, children are taught to live in a group. A complete ban on fighting and any aggression. No one will ever say that if someone hits you, hit back. Rather, in response to someone’s aggression, you will be advised to leave and not pay attention. Children go to school from the age of 5. I can’t write anything about the school yet; we will only go there next year.

A few words about active sports. I would divide parents into 2 categories: those who love active sports and those who don’t. Overall, probably about 70% of sports fans. And then parents drag their children from birth wherever they themselves like to go. Therefore, a bunch of all kinds of convenient carrying, transportation and dragging for children have been invented. Backpacks, bicycle carts, special seats - there’s everything here for every taste and color. I would especially like to note the safety for children, i.e. A helmet is a must, sometimes you can meet a child on a tricycle wearing a helmet! Although, in general, children here are not so active in their own vehicles; for example, it is difficult for us to find a company for the older one to ride in the yard.

In general, something like this, a little chaotic, maybe I forgot something.

I’ll write about us that, in the end, we don’t really raise children at all, maybe we make some adjustments to the rules and norms in society, but we don’t scold them, we don’t punish them, we don’t beat them, although we limit many things.

How to train a dog to toilet outside if there is no place to walk with the puppy?

There are also such situations: there are packs of stray dogs around the house, there are no clean walking areas, and it’s practically impossible to get to the park. In this case, we act by replacing the usual filler or diaper with something that will perform their functions - a handful of earth. Pour it into the tray and watch the dog’s behavior. If you notice that he is restless, sits down and sniffs, put him in an impromptu “clearing”. As soon as your baby completes the task, treat him to something tasty - for example, a special treat for puppies (biscuits).

Is it possible to punish the culprit if he left something in the wrong place? This needs to be done without physical force - just a threatening tone and pressing the puppy’s face to the floor - like, “look what you’ve done and don’t do it again.” However, such instruction only makes sense if you have witnessed a “crime.” It is useless to shout at your dog when you return home after work and find a puddle on the floor - the pet simply will not understand why you were offended.

Important

When trying to understand how to train a dog to ask to go outside or get used to it after diapers, you need to learn a common truth - if you don’t have time to walk your pet, you shouldn’t expect instant obedience from him. Imagine yourself in the place of an animal - you would hardly want to wait until the evening. Don't force your pet to endure it. Walk your dog regularly - during “training”, not only in the morning and evening, but 5-6 times a day.

Here are some tips for those who want to train their puppy to potty outside:

  • As soon as the baby does his job, play with him, not forgetting to treat him with a treat. Don't rush to take him home. It is better to reschedule all games, starting them when your pet pleases you with the right actions. This will show him that he did well and deserves praise.
  • The dog should be taken out either after sleep or after eating. Try to keep track of what time the puppy goes to the toilet - by checking this schedule you can avoid unpleasant surprises at home, taking them away before he wants to “inherit”.
  • Be sure to check your pet's health status with a veterinarian - if the animal develops diarrhea or cystitis, your attempts will lead to nothing, and the condition of the puppy or adult dog will worsen. Eliminate the cause of the problem and only then begin training.

Spaniel Club. All about spaniels.

One of the serious problems for any person who has bought a Russian spaniel puppy is how to wean him from getting dirty in the apartment. This is a fairly large dog, which is not suitable for just keeping at home and requires constant walks where it will relieve its needs. The puppy goes to the toilet at home not to harm the owners, but because of physiological characteristics.

He has a very small bladder with practically non-elastic walls. During growth, it consumes a lot of food, so urine accumulates quickly. The same goes for hard stools. The intestines are relatively small in a puppy. If in the first month of life the bowel movements are quite unsystematic, then later it will be possible to trace patterns.

Typically, Russian Spaniel puppies reach their owners no earlier than two months. The breeder may or may not have litter trained the puppies. In any case, with sufficient attention to your pet, you can completely get rid of this problem. Firstly, you need to determine the time when he wants it, and, secondly, feeds at the same time. This will affect the dog's systematic behavior.

How to teach a puppy to keep the house clean?

Before going to the toilet, the puppy will begin to walk in circles, looking for a suitable place. He may whine. At this moment, the owners urgently need to take him to a place where they can take care of business. If there has been no vaccination, then it is taken to a special tray at home and, if possible, taken out into the yard. The owner must quickly put on clothes and take the puppy. The dog won't be able to stand it for long. To prevent it from attacking its owner, its tail is placed on the hand. The hind legs hang on either side of the hand and the front paws are between the toes, the chest resting on the palm.

Usually the puppy wants to go to the toilet immediately after waking up, before or after eating. At these moments you need to be vigilant. First, the dog learns not to leave solid feces, and then does all its work outside. Usually, with proper care, spaniels stop getting dirty by 3 months, but there are also puppies that ask to go outside every three hours up to 6 months. It is enough to walk an adult dog twice a day. It is advisable to do this at the same time, but if anything she can wait a couple of hours.

To prevent your puppy from finding his favorite places in the house, you need to thoroughly wipe everything using detergents. Dogs have a much finer sense of smell, and they may want to repeat their feat in a certain place. If the puppy is big enough, but does not get used to order, this is entirely the fault of the owners, and not the stupidity of the dog.

How to clean up after your dog on the street?

In Russia, cleaning up after your pets is more a rarity than a common occurrence. When taking your dog to the park or outside, think about it: would I want to go where someone else’s animal went to the toilet before? Those who want to take care of the cleanliness of walking areas should follow simple rules:

  • Special plastic bags or newspapers are ideal for cleaning up feces (it’s better to take several of them with you at once).
  • You can pick up the excrement by putting a bag on your hand or using a scoop.
  • Garbage should be thrown into a nearby trash bin.
  • Don't forget to wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

What should you do if your dog can’t stand going outside because he’s afraid to walk in parks or special areas? In this case, there is only one option - systematic training, which may require consultation with a veterinarian or animal psychologist. Do not forget that for a puppy, the first “outings” are real stress that is difficult to survive. Walk away from highways and the noise of passing cars at quiet times - in the morning or evening, when there are fewer potential irritants.

If the problem occurs in an adult dog, begin to get acquainted with the outside world carefully - in several stages. Teach your pet to obey your will - if the dog understands that you are the leader, under whose protection nothing threatens him, he will follow you anywhere.
