Lady and the Tramp

Lady and the Tramp

  • USA, 1955.
  • Animation, comedy, melodrama.
  • Duration: 76 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.3.

A still from the cartoon “Lady and the Tramp”
The life of a young couple is transformed the moment they get a charming Cocker Spaniel girl named Lady. But a few years later, a small child appears in the family, and this radically changes the situation. The upset Lady runs away and meets a stray dog, Tramp. He is ready to open the world outside her yard to a new acquaintance. This is how their complicated love story begins.

Lady and the Tramp can easily be included among the most charming couples in love in the entire history of cinema, and the scene with a romantic dinner in the courtyard of an Italian restaurant has long turned into a bright pop culture symbol.

Interestingly, Lady and the Tramp clearly implies a love scene, although at the time the slightest hint of sex before marriage in films was frowned upon by Hollywood. This can be explained very simply: censorship never reached the cartoon, because the main characters are not people, but dogs.

101 Dalmatians

One Hundred and One Dalmatians

  • USA, 1961.
  • Animation, comedy.
  • Duration: 79 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.2.

Odious fashionista Cruella De Vil is going to steal Dalmatian puppies and sew herself new clothes from their beautiful skins. The villain sends two stupid bandits, Jasper and Horace, on the case. But the owners - the good-natured and slightly absent-minded composer Roger and his wife Anita - are not going to sit idly by and set out on a search.

Of course, the cartoon is primarily about dogs, but what viewers remember most is the eccentric Madame De Ville. The creators deliberately made her look a little like actress Marlene Dietrich (long cigarette holder in her hand, high cheekbones, arched thin eyebrows) and chose a very fashionable wardrobe for her.

The Fox and the Dog

The Fox and the Hound

  • USA, 1981.
  • Animation, adventure, drama.
  • Duration: 83 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.3.

Todd the fox and Cooper the puppy are growing up on neighboring farms. At first the animals were very friendly. But over time, they understand that nature has prepared for one of them the role of a hunter, and the other - a victim.

Daniel P. Mannix's original novel ended tragically. Therefore, the Walt Disney Pictures team decided not to repeat the mistakes of “Bambi”, but to rewrite the script so as not to traumatize young viewers. Nevertheless, the ending of the cartoon was bittersweet and very different from the studio’s traditional endings.

Desperate Dogs

The Plague Dogs

  • UK, USA, 1982.
  • Animation, adventure, drama.
  • Duration: 103 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.8.

Still from the cartoon "Desperate Dogs"
Two dogs - the elderly Rowf and the young Snitter - escape from the laboratory where they are being experimented on. Thus begins their long and difficult struggle for survival, in which they are helped by a fox named Rogue.

Martin Rosen's cartoon is not intended for children at all. The film criticizes cruelty to animals, and does so in such a dark and even depressing style that viewing may be difficult even for some adults.
