Fungin forte (dropper) 12 ml for the treatment of lichen, fungal skin diseases and seborrhea in animals

Instructions for use and dosage for cats

Veterinarians recommend carrying out a treatment procedure only after confirming the diagnosis in the laboratory (taking a scraping).
Before using the product, you can wash your pet and then wait for the fur to dry. Eliminating contaminants will increase the permeability of the product into its dermal tissue. Algorithm for using the spray:

  • fixing a collar (muzzle) on the animal;
  • spraying the product within a radius of 10–15 cm from the skin;
  • medication consumption in the ratio of 0.2–03 ml/1 kg of weight;
  • removing the collar 15–20 minutes after the end of the procedure.

When using the aerosol, it is also necessary to capture healthy areas at a distance of up to 1 cm from the source of the fungal infection. Alternative use is also possible, which the instructions for Fungin allow. Using cotton wool soaked in the product, the application is carried out locally: the affected areas of the animal’s body are lubricated. With this processing method, the owner must wear rubber gloves. The duration of treatment is from 10 to 15 days, the intensity of treatment is once a day.

Use of the drug Fungin Forte for the treatment of skin diseases in cats

The drug Fungin is applied directly to the skin of the animal.

Pros and cons of the drug

The advantages of Fungin for cats include the active effect of the main substances, which they have on fungal cells, productively destroying them. The undoubted advantage of the drug is the absence of side effects, as well as many contraindications.

However, the drug also has disadvantages. The list of relative disadvantages includes the duration of the course of treatment, which ranges from 10 to 15 days. It should also be taken into account that during a protracted process, the medication will be powerless without additional symptomatic therapy.

Fungin is a medicine for cats used to eliminate ringworm and other fungal diseases that damage the skin of pets. Thanks to clotrimazole and propolis, which are in its composition, the drug actively destroys pathogenic cells and relieves inflammation without causing side effects in the cat’s body. In most cases, using the solution is enough to successfully rid your furry friend of the disease; if the disease persists, the veterinarian will prescribe symptomatic therapy.

Mechanism of action and therapeutic efficacy

When applied topically, molecules of active substances accumulate in the stratum corneum of the skin, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands. The therapeutic effect is achieved due to the action of the main components:

  • terbinafine - depending on the concentration, exhibits a fungicidal or fungistatic effect. Due to its high lipophilicity, terbinafine molecules accumulate in the stratum corneum of the dermis, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands. When applied topically, the drug penetrates into the systemic circulation to a small extent. The substance causes the accumulation of harmful compounds in the cells of pathogenic microorganisms and the death of fungi;
  • Thiabendazole – active against dermatophytes. The mechanism of action is to disrupt the synthesis of nutrients in fungal cells and destroy the cell wall. The substance destroys fungi and prevents their reproduction.
  • Metronidazole – effectively destroys bacteria. Included in the composition to prevent secondary skin infections due to ulcers and scratching;
  • Dexamethasone is a synthetic hormonal drug that has anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effects. Relieves the body's increased sensitivity to allergies, suppressing an excessive immune reaction (in this case, the skin reaction) and reduces the risk of severe scarring of damaged areas. The mechanism of action is to suppress the activity of various tissue-destructive enzymes and inflammatory mediators;
  • lidocaine is a local anesthetic that blocks the transmission of pain impulses along nerve fibers to the brain.

The excipients in the composition contribute to better absorption of the active components, and also have a healing and disinfectant effect.

If you follow the instructions for the medicine:

  • does not have a toxic or irritating effect;
  • does not contribute to allergies;
  • has no toxic or mutagenic effect on the fetus.

Pharmacological properties

The main advantage of the drug is its wide spectrum of action, which is determined by the active components. It is effective in destroying fungi of various types, helps restore skin and hair, which usually falls out in places where the disease develops.

Use of the drug Fungin Forte for the treatment of skin diseases in cats

Each of the active components has its own effect:

  1. Terbinafine has antifungal properties. The principle of its action is to block the enzyme necessary for the life and development of fungi. The absence of the enzyme leads to their rapid death. The substance practically does not penetrate into the bloodstream, but can accumulate in the sebaceous glands and hair follicles.
  2. Thiabendazole has pronounced fungicidal (antifungal) properties. It not only contributes to the disruption of metabolic processes in fungi, which leads to death, but also destroys the reproductive ability, due to which they cannot reproduce.
  3. Metronidazole has an antibacterial effect. It is effective even against the simplest microorganisms, which can pose a serious danger to animals and people.
  4. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid that has a broad spectrum of action. Suppresses inflammatory processes, has immunosuppressive, antiallergic and antitoxic effects.
  5. Lidocaine reduces pain by suppressing the sensitivity of nerve endings.

The medicine promotes wound healing and hair restoration, as it triggers regenerative processes.

Composition, release form

The drug is a liquid dosage form (solution) for external use, yellow in color with a barely noticeable odor.

Available in the following packages:

  • glass bottles of 10, 12, 15 ml;
  • bottles made of polymer materials with a sprayer of 20, 30, 40, 50 ml;
  • bottles made of polymer materials with dropper caps of 10, 12, 15 ml.

The active ingredients are:

  1. Terbinafine is a modern antifungal agent. Stops the reproduction and growth of the pathogen and causes its death.
  2. Tibendazole is an effective fungicide for trichophytosis.
  3. Metronidazole is an antimicrobial and antiprotozoal component.
  4. Dexamethasone – fights inflammation, relieves itching, and inhibits the activity of destructive cellular enzymes.
  5. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic. Reduces the sensitivity of nerve endings.

Composition and release form

Fungin for cats is a light brown liquid with a slight specific odor.
The composition of the drug includes the active substance clotrimazole and auxiliary components that have anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects: propolis, sulfur, isopropyl alcohol, glycerin, dimethyl sulfoxide, polyethylene glycol.

Clotrimazole has an active effect on pathogenic fungal microorganisms on the skin of cats. Currently, manufacturers of veterinary drugs offer several convenient forms of the drug. The drug is presented in the form of a solution, ointment and spray. Cat owners give the greatest preference to Fungin spray.

How does Fungin work and in what cases is it prescribed?

Clotrimazole has a destructive effect on pathogenic microorganisms, destroys them and completely inhibits their growth and reproduction.
The substance promotes tissue restoration, disinfects and heals the surface of wounds on the skin of an animal. Propolis enhances the antifungal activity of clotrimazole, relieves inflammation, disinfects and heals the skin. Fungin is a low-toxic veterinary drug. If the instructions are followed, it does not have an irritating effect.

Indications for use: Fungin is used to treat lichen or trichophytosis and microsporia in cats and dogs.

Contraindications

Before using the drug, you should carefully read the instructions or consult a veterinarian, since the drug has a number of restrictions on use.
The use of the drug is not recommended if animals have individual intolerance to the components of the drug, as well as in the following cases:

  • the age of the animal is less than one month;
  • during pregnancy and lactation;
  • animals after infectious diseases.

If the instructions are strictly followed, no complications are observed. The individual reaction of the body can manifest itself in the form of increased salivation and abnormal bowel movements.

Fungin Forte: composition and release form

The drug Fungin Forte was developed by Moscow in 2015. It is a fairly effective antifungal agent in the treatment of skin diseases in pets and has a more advanced formula than Fungin, previously produced by the same company. Currently, the company only offers a new drug for the treatment of pets. Fungin Forte is produced in liquid form and is used for external use. The composition of this yellow solution (can be of different shades) includes the following components:

  • terbinafine hydrochloride - 1%;
  • thiabendazole - 1%;
  • metronidazole - 1%;
  • lidocaine hydrochloride - 5%;
  • dexamethasone - 0.1%.

Excipients:

  • phenylcarbinol - 30%;
  • DMSO - 10%;
  • orange terpene (essential oil) - 0.5%;
  • polyethylene glycol-400 - 0.1%.

Fungin is available in several varieties:

  1. In glass bottles with a capacity of 10, 12 and 15 milliliters for application to the skin using cotton swabs.
  2. In the form of sprays; Cylinders with a volume of twenty, thirty, forty and fifty milliliters are produced.
  3. In polymer droppers, which also have several forms of packaging: ten, twelve and fifteen milliliters.

All varieties of the antifungal agent Fungin Forte have similar packaging

Under what conditions should Fungin Forte be stored?

Compliance with the rules for storing the drug ensures the safety of your family:

  1. The drug should be unopened in original packaging at room temperature in a dry and dark place.
  2. The place where it is stored must be inaccessible to children.
  3. Fungin should not be stored near food.

If storage conditions are met in sealed packaging, the drug is suitable for use within two years from the date of release; after opening the bottle only thirty days. The remaining product after the expiration date is disposed of in accordance with legal requirements. Empty containers must also be disposed of and cannot be used for household needs.

Pharmacological effects

The active substances included in the composition differ in their effect on the biochemical reactions occurring in the cells of parasitic fungi:

  1. Terbinafine - inhibits the action of one of the enzymes of the intracellular membrane, which leads to the death of the fungal cell. Terbinafine can accumulate in the upper layer of the skin and, when applied topically, is practically not transferred to the rest of the body.
  2. Dexamethasone reduces the ability of cells to divide and prevents further spread of the disease, and also disrupts the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane of the cell, which leads to its death. In addition, it prevents the development of inflammatory processes, allergies and intoxication of the body.
  3. Metronidazole destroys anaerobic microorganisms, including fungi.
  4. Lidocaine blocks the passage of nerve impulses and is a local anesthetic.

The role of auxiliary components:

  • ethylene glycol polymer PEG - is a good solvent and is used as the basis for dermatological medications;
  • phenylcarbinol (alcohol) - a solvent, also used to disinfect the affected area;
  • dimexide - promotes rapid absorption of active substances, and also has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties;
  • essential orange oil not only has a pleasant smell, but also has an anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect.

Side effects of the medicine

When using the drug in prescribed doses, they are not observed. However, some signs may occur due to individual intolerance to the components of the medicine by the pet. In this case, there is a possibility of skin irritation. If such a phenomenon is detected, the intake is stopped, and the applied solution is removed with a swab, then washed off with water from the skin of the animal.

Side effects occur due to an overdose of the active substance; in these cases, cats experience:

  • allergic reactions on the skin;
  • depressed state;
  • increased salivation;
  • gastrointestinal disorders.

If such symptoms cannot be eliminated by refusing to take or remove the solution from the cat’s skin, the veterinarian will prescribe symptomatic and desensitizing medications.

Note! Increased salivation (hypersalivation) is possible when using the solution for the first time. However, it passes quickly and is not a negative effect of the medicine on the body of a domestic cat.

Side effects

Fungin Forte is well tolerated by dogs. In case of intolerance to the components of the drug or in case of overdose, increased salivation, problems with the gastrointestinal tract, skin rashes and itching, and a depressed state are possible.

If such symptoms appear, it is necessary to refuse treatment and rinse the skin to remove any remaining drug composition. If the dog's condition does not improve, you should show it to a doctor . Sometimes symptomatic therapy is required.

If drooling began after the first use of the spray or drops, but quickly passed, treatment can be continued. In this case, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the dog.

Instructions for use

The use of Fungin for cats is possible only externally; the drug should not be allowed to come into contact with the surface of the mucous membranes, as this leads to very severe irritation.
If cats show signs of lichen or other skin disease, doctors recommend using Fungin. Timely use of the drug will significantly speed up the animal’s recovery and improve the condition of its skin.

The use of Fungin in the form of a solution is allowed in case of fungal infections on the face and back of the body. In this case, the effect on the mucous surfaces and eyes of the animal will be minimal.

The use of the drug is unacceptable without consultation with a specialist. The veterinarian must do tests, make an accurate diagnosis and only then prescribe proper treatment.

If an animal has been diagnosed with microsporia or trichophytosis, the drug can be used in the dosage specified in the instructions. If lichen is detected, treatment should be prescribed individually. This is due to the fact that different forms of the disease may require the prescription of a specialized drug, and Fungin will be useless in this situation. The doctor must also determine the severity of the disease.

Before using the drug, you should first prepare the skin. To do this, the hair around the affected area is carefully trimmed, capturing one centimeter around it. There is no need to shave the fur, as this can lead to injury to the damaged area and infection of the wound.

To treat the affected area, if it is small in size, use a cotton pad or gauze swab. To treat large areas of the skin, it is recommended to use a spray that is sprayed over the surface of the cat's skin. When using the medicine, you need to hold the cat tightly, it should not escape and carefully ensure that the animal does not lick the medicine. For these purposes, it is recommended to use a special collar.

The solution and Fungin spray are used at the rate of 0.2 ml per kilogram of animal body weight. The drug is applied in the direction from the edges of the damaged surface to the center, covering about 1 centimeter of the healthy surface. After using Fungin, your pet should not be bathed for 24 hours.

The drug is used once a day until complete recovery. Usually the course of treatment is 10–15 days. The veterinarian should then take a control scraping. If a fungus is detected, treatment may be extended.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Fungin spray for cats and dogs is effective for the following diseases:

  • trichophytosis;
  • seborrheic dermatitis;
  • ringworm;
  • fungal eczema;
  • other fungal pathologies of the skin.

The product can be used only after diagnosis. If you notice signs of a fungal infection, you should contact your veterinarian. Self-medication can lead to dangerous consequences. In addition, it should be understood that fungal diseases are transmitted to humans.

Price

Fungin Forte spray can be purchased at any veterinary pharmacy. The cost of the drug varies from 250 to 350 rubles and depends on the place of purchase.

Frequent walks in outdoor conditions and the presence of an impressive coat of fur increase the risk of development in your pet. To eliminate pathogenic microflora, antifungal agents are used, which include fungin for the treatment of cats. Pronounced restorative properties help your pet recover faster and prevent the appearance of bald areas, which often occur with this pathological condition.

II. Pharmacological properties Fungin Forte belongs to combined antifungal drugs.

Active ingredients: Terbinafine is an antifungal agent of the allylamine group, active against pathogens of animal dermatomycosis. The mechanism of action is to inhibit squalene epoxidase in the cell membrane of the fungus. This leads to ergosterol deficiency and intracellular accumulation of squalene, which causes the death of the pathogen cell. Depending on the concentration, terbinafen exhibits a fungicidal or fungistatic effect. Due to its high lipophilicity, terbinafine molecules accumulate in the stratum corneum of the dermis, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands; When applied locally, the drug penetrates into the systemic circulation to a small extent.

Thiabendazole is an azole fungicide. Active against pathogens of trichophytosis and microsporia (ringworm) of animal genera Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epiderrnophyton, Achorion. Like other azoles, it blocks the activity of enzymes involved in the 14-demethylation of lanosgsrol, which leads to disruption of ergosterol synthesis. A change in the structure of the cytoplasmic membrane of fungal cells leads to a disruption of its permeability, the release of biologically active substances from the cell and the destruction of the cell wall. In addition, thiabendazole disrupts the process of nuclear division and inhibits the reproductive ability of fungi.

Metronidazole is a drug from the group of nitroimidazoles. The mechanism of action is the biochemical reduction of the 5-nitro group of metronidazole by intracellular transport proteins of anaerobic microorganisms and protozoa. The reduced 5-nitro group of metronidazole interacts with the DNA of the bacterial cell, inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids in it, which leads to the death of the microorganism.

Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticosteroid, a methylated derivative of fluoroprednisolone. It has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, desensitizing, immunosuppressive, antishock and antitoxic effects, increases the sensitivity of beta-adrenergic receptors to endogenous catecholamines. The mechanism of action of dexamethasone is to suppress the activity of various tissue-destructive enzymes - proteases and nucleases, matrix metalloproteinases, hyaluronidase, phospholipase, inhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins, kinins, leukotrienes and other inflammatory mediators from arachidonic acid.

Lidocaine has a local anesthetic effect, blocks voltage-gated sodium channels, which prevents the generation of impulses in the endings of sensory nerves and the conduction of impulses along nerve fibers.

Fungin Forte, regardless of the degree of impact on the body, is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), in recommended doses it does not have a locally irritating, resorptive-toxic or sensitizing effect. In case of contact with eyes, it causes mild irritation.

III. Directions for use Fungin Forte is prescribed to dogs and cats for the treatment of fungal skin diseases, eczema of fungal etiology and seborrheic dermatitis.

Contraindication for use is the animal's hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. Weakened animals, lactating and pregnant bitches and cats, as well as puppies and kittens under 4 weeks of age cannot be treated.

Fungin Forte is applied in a thin layer using a cotton-gauze swab, as well as by spraying or applying directly to the skin from a dropper bottle, lightly rubbing into the affected areas from the periphery to the center, covering up to 1 cm of borderline healthy skin. Treatments are carried out once or twice a day until clinical recovery, but not more than 15 days. The effectiveness of treatment is confirmed by microscopic examination of skin scrapings.

To prevent licking of the drug, animals are put on a muzzle, a collar, or the jaws are closed with a loop of braid, which are removed 15-20 minutes after treatment.

In severe cases of the disease, animals are additionally prescribed drugs for specific and symptomatic therapy in accordance with the instructions for use.

No overdose symptoms were identified.

No peculiarities of action were identified during the first use of the drug and when it was discontinued.

If the next treatment is missed, the use of the drug is resumed at the same dose, according to the same regimen.

There are no side effects or complications when using the drug Fungin Forte according to these instructions. If the animal’s individual sensitivity to the components of the drug is increased and signs of skin irritation appear, the treatment is stopped, Fungin Forte is removed with a swab and washed off with water, the animal is prescribed antihistamines and symptomatic therapy.

Fungin Forte should not be used simultaneously with other topical preparations containing corticosteroids.

Fungin Forte is not intended for use in productive animals.

IV. Personal preventive measures When working with the drug Fungin Forte, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with medications, and use rubber gloves when handling the animal. After finishing work, wash your hands with warm water and soap. In case of accidental contact of the drug with the skin or mucous membranes of the eye, they should be immediately rinsed with plenty of water. People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with Fungin Forte. If allergic reactions occur or if the drug accidentally enters the human body, you should immediately contact a medical facility (bring with you the instructions for use of the drug or the label).

Empty drug bottles must not be used for household purposes; they must be disposed of with household waste.
