In veterinary practice, dogs, like any other pets, are often diagnosed with diseases and pathologies associated with dysfunction of the genitourinary tract. For the treatment of acute and chronic urological diseases, as well as for preventive purposes, veterinarians often prescribe drugs with a complex (broad) spectrum of action to four-fingered patients, for example, the veterinary drug “Stop Cystitis” for dogs and cats.

Description of the drug, release form

Stop-cystitis for dogs is a veterinary drug with complex action for the treatment of acute, chronic inflammatory and infectious diseases of the genitourinary tract. The drug is also prescribed for prophylactic purposes to prevent the development of infection during diagnostic procedures (catheterization, cystoscopy), in the postoperative period when performing strip operations on the kidneys, bladder, to prevent the re-formation of urinary stones after their removal.

Stop-cystitis is available in the form of a light brown, dark green suspension with a pleasant specific odor for oral use, as well as in tablets for internal use.

Important! During storage, separation of the suspension is allowed, the formation of a sediment, which disappears when the jar of medicine is shaken.

The suspension is packaged in polyethylene bottles of 30, 50, 100, 150 ml with screw caps. The bottles are packed in cardboard boxes, where in addition to the drug itself there is a dosing syringe for easy administration/measuring cup, instructions for use. The bottles must bear the name of the veterinary drug, list the constituent components (active substances), indicate the batch number, expiration date, and volume of the pharmacological product.

Stop cystitis can also be purchased in tablet form. Available in plastic jars containing 20 tablets. For cats – 15 tablets. Country of origin: Russia.

1 ml of Stop Cystitis suspension for dogs contains:

  • nitroxoline – 12.5 mg (main active ingredient);
  • drotaverine hydrochloride – 15 mg;
  • nettle leaf extract – 5 mg;
  • knotweed herb extract – 5 mg;
  • birch leaf extract – 5 mg;
  • club moss – 5 mg;
  • barberry extract – 5 mg
  • juniper fruit extract –5 mg;
  • lingonberry leaf extract – 5 mg;
  • licorice root extract – 5 mg;
  • auxiliary components.

The medicinal plants included in the veterinary preparation contain sufficient concentrations of flavonoids, pectins, essential oils, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, organic acids, vitamins, and mineral compounds that have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the urinary system and the entire body as a whole.

Stop-cystitis is a safe, low-toxic pharmacological drug. The main active ingredient, nitroxoline, is excreted unchanged by the kidneys during urination. Other components of the drug are quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. In the recommended doses indicated in the annotation for the drug, it does not have a sensitizing or hepatotoxic effect.

It should be stored in a cool, dry, dark place protected from UV rays at a temperature of 0-26 degrees Celsius in a closed box.

Nitroxoline is an antimicrobial agent that is excreted primarily in the urine. The drug is active against bacteria and fungi that cause inflammation of the urinary tract. Drotaverine (No Shpa) relieves spasms, expands the lumen of blood vessels and ureters, which prevents the crystallization of uric salts.

Extracts of medicinal plants have a mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effect. Buffering substances prevent the precipitation of urinary salts and the formation of urinary stones, and also contribute to the destruction of the resulting stones.

The drug is prescribed for the following diseases:

  • cystitis;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • urolithiasis disease;
  • prevention of complications after surgical removal of urinary stones;
  • before diagnostic procedures.

The tablets are given forcibly to the root of the tongue. For the treatment of acute diseases, pills are given 2 times a day for 5–7 days. To prevent exacerbation of the inflammatory process, which has become chronic, tablets are used once a day, unless otherwise prescribed by a veterinarian. In this case, long-term treatment is prescribed, up to lifelong. The approximate single dosage is presented in the table:

The tablets have a bitter taste, so after the first use your pet may develop profuse drooling. Analogues:

Pharmacological properties, indications for use

Veterinary specialists prescribe stop-cystitis to animals individually in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract:

  • urethritis;
  • cystitis;
  • nephritis of various etiologies;
  • ICD (urolithiasis);
  • acute, chronic pyelonephritis.

The veterinary drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antispasmodic effect, and a mild diuretic effect.

The main active ingredient of the drug (Nitroxoline) is a derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline. Effective against a number of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, some types of pathogenic fungi that provoke inflammatory processes and cause infections in the genitourinary tract of warm-blooded animals. It has a detrimental effect on streptostaphylococci, ureaplasma, E. coli, and salmonella.

Dosage, instructions for use

Despite the low toxicity of the drug, the veterinary drug, frequency of administration, and dosage should be prescribed by the attending veterinarian. The duration of treatment depends on the general physiological state of the animals, age, individual characteristics of the body, form, stage of urological diseases.

Stop Cystitis is administered to dogs individually, given along with food, or administered using a dispenser syringe behind the cheek, with the mouth wide open. The tablets can be placed on the root of your favorite pet’s tongue or crushed into powder and given with your favorite treat.

Important! For therapeutic purposes, Stop Cystitis is given to animals twice a day, for preventive purposes – once every five to seven days.

According to the instructions, the suspension is given to animals, adhering to the following dosage:

  1. For dogs weighing up to 10 kg, miniature and decorative breeds – 2 ml at a time. Daily dose – 4 ml.
  2. From 10 to 20 kg – 2.5-3.0 ml.
  3. From 21 to 30 kg – 3.0-4 ml.
  4. From 31 to 42 kg – 4.5-6 ml.

For representatives of giant breeds, if the body weight of your beloved pet exceeds 40-45 kg, a single dose is from 6.0 to 8.0 ml.

Advice! Before using the pharmacological agent, shake the bottle of medication well until the sediment completely disappears.

Dogs weighing up to 10 kg - 1 tablet, from 11 to 20 kg - two, from 31 to 41 kg - 2-3 tablets, over 40-45 kg - 3-4 tablets.

Before giving your dog medicine, be sure to carefully read the instructions for the veterinary drug, strictly adhering to the indicated dosage. This will help avoid side effects during treatment. If necessary, to prevent the development of relapses of Stop Cystitis, the course of treatment with veterinary medication will be prescribed again after two to three weeks.

Stop cystitis suspension

Nitroxoline is an antiseptic released through the kidneys, which sanitizes the urinary tract, destroying micromycetes and bacteria. Drotaverine relieves spasms, expands the lumen of the ureters, prevents stagnation of urine and the formation of stones. Extracts of medicinal plants prevent the formation of stones in the ureters, kidneys and bladder and dissolve those already formed.

The drug is prescribed for the following diseases and pathological conditions:

  • cystitis;
  • pyelonephritis;
  • urothiasis;
  • prevention of postoperative complications;
  • preparation for diagnostic procedures.

Stop cystitis is given with food or injected onto the root of the tongue using a measuring syringe. For treatment, the drug is given 2 times a day for 5–7 days. For prevention, one administration per day is sufficient, and the duration of treatment is determined by a veterinarian.

Side effects

If you strictly adhere to the frequency of administration and dosage, side effects are observed extremely rarely in dogs and cats after taking a veterinary drug. The active components of the medicine, biologically active compounds of medicinal plants are well tolerated by the body of warm-blooded animals.

Stop-cystitis combines well with other pharmacological agents, feed, mineral and vitamin supplements, and herbal preparations.

In some cases, with hypersensitivity to the active substances of the drug, allergic reactions, excessive salivation, drowsiness, and decreased physical activity may occur.

This drug is not recommended for use in dogs with acute heart failure or when chronic liver pathologies are diagnosed. Pregnant and lactating females are treated with veterinary medicine under the strict supervision of the treating veterinarian.

Contraindications and side effects

As a medicine, Stop-Cystitis has some contraindications and side effects and is somewhat limited in use.
