What kind of drug is this?
The drug is designed specifically for dogs of any age and any breed. It comes in three forms:
- pills;
- suspension;
- drops.
The veterinarian determines which form to choose. The purpose depends on the breed of the animal, age, type of parasites and other factors.
Does it help against worms?
It is used for the following purposes:
- prevention of helminthiasis;
- treatment of nematodes and cestodes at any stage of their development;
- prevention of dirofilariasis;
- destruction of fleas, lice, lice;
- preventing the appearance of demodectic and sarcoptoid mites.
Use the medicine according to the instructions in strictly defined doses.
Compound
Dironet is available in two types:
- for internal use;
- for external use.
The composition of the drug includes:
- Pyrantel pamoate (150 mg). It creates a blockade of nerve impulses, thereby disrupting the activity of parasites, which leads to their death.
- Ivermectin (0.06 mg). Destroys the muscle membrane of parasites. When the concentration of the substance reaches its maximum level, the parasite dies from paralysis.
- Praziquantel (50 mg). Affects tapeworms.
The drops do not contain pyrantel pamoate, the remaining substances are identical.
Composition and pharmacological properties.
The drug as active ingredients in 1 ml, depending on the modification, respectively contains: “Dironet spot-on” for dogs – 85 mg of praziquantel and 20 mg of ivermectin, “Dironet spot-on” for cats – 85 mg of praziquantel and 5 mg of ivermectin, and also excipients.
"Dironet Spot-on" has a wide spectrum of antiparasitic action, is active against larval and mature stages of development of intestinal nematodes, including Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Ancylostoma spp., Uncinaria stenocephala, Trichuris vulpis, cestodes, including Echinococcus granulosus , Echinococcus multilocularis, diphyllobothrium Latum, Dipylidium caninum, MultiCeps multInia spp., Mesocestoides Lineatus, flea (ctenocephalides spp.), Lino (lino), lice (lino Gnatus setotus), Vrayeeds (Trichodectes canis), sarcoptoid (Sarcoptes Canis, Otodectes Cynotis, Notoedres Cati) and demodicosis (Demodex canis) mites that parasitize dogs and cats.
After cutaneous application, the drug, absorbed from the site of application, enters the systemic bloodstream, organs and tissues of the animal, providing an effective antiparasitic effect.
It has an insectoacaricidal effect on fleas, lice, lice, sarcoptic and demodectic mites that are present on animals at the time of treatment.
The mechanism of action of ivermectin, which is part of the drug, is its effect on the magnitude of the current of chlorine ions through the membranes of the nerve and muscle cells of the parasite. The main targets are glutamate-sensitive chloride channels, as well as gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors. A change in the current of chlorine ions disrupts the conduction of impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of ectoparasites and nematodes.
The mechanism of action of praziquantel is based on the depolarization of neuromuscular ganglion blockers, disruption of glucose transport and microtubular function of all phases of cestode development, which causes disruption of muscle innervation, paralysis and death of parasites.
Pills
The tablets are convenient to give to large breed dogs. The suspension is not very suitable in this case, since several syringes are required. The disadvantages are that capricious dogs may refuse to swallow it, then you will have to resort to some tricks.
Dosage
For the treatment of nematodes and cestodes, the dog is given 1 tablet per 10 kilograms of the animal’s weight. If the pet is over 60 kilograms, then a consultation is required before treatment.
Methods of application
Give the tablet strictly in the morning feeding. There is no need to adhere to special diets before deworming; laxatives should not be given to the animal either.
As a preventative measure, give tablets once every few months.
How to give the tablet:
- Crush the tablet and add it to the animal's food. Be sure to make sure your dog eats everything. Some animals smell the medicine and do not finish the food.
- Use an introducer .
For therapeutic purposes, the drug is taken once a month.

Before use, break off the tip of the pipette tube and, spreading the fur, apply the drug to the animal’s skin along the spine, in places inaccessible for licking the drug - in the neck area at the base of the skull or between the shoulder blades.
When treating large animals, the contents of the pipettes are applied to the skin in 3–4 places.
The minimum therapeutic dose of the drug for adult animals is 0.2 ml/kg animal weight. The minimum therapeutic dose of the drug for puppies and kittens is 0.1 ml/kg body weight. Taking into account the type, age and weight of the animal being treated, a pipette tube of the required volume or a combination thereof is selected and the drug is used in the doses indicated in the table.
To destroy fleas, lice and lice, the animal is treated once, to prevent re-infestation - once a month throughout the entire season of insect activity.
To treat otodectosis (ear scabies), the drug is applied to the skin once. If necessary, the course of treatment is repeated after 1 month. During the treatment process, it is recommended to clean the ear canal of exudate and scabs, and in case of complications with otitis media, prescribe antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory drugs. For therapeutic purposes in cases of sarcoptic mange and demodicosis in dogs and notoedrosis in cats, the drug is used 2–4 times with an interval of 10–14 days until double negative results of acarological examination are obtained; in order to prevent possible invasion - 1 time per month. Treatment is recommended to be carried out comprehensively using etiotropic, pathogenetic and symptomatic drugs in accordance with the instructions for their use.
For deworming of animals with nematodes and cestodes of the gastrointestinal tract, the drug is used for therapeutic purposes once, for prophylactic purposes - once a quarter.
How to give the suspension?
The suspension is sold in bottles. The included measuring syringe is very convenient for dosing. It is very convenient to calculate the volume of the medicine, 1 ml of the product per 1 kg of animal weight.

Reviews
Owners
“I have a shepherd dog, she is already 8 years old. One day after a walk, I noticed her lethargic state; the next day she refused to walk at all. The veterinarian advised me to buy Dironet 1000, as she suggested that the reason for this behavior may lie in worms.
I gave medicine in the morning feeding. The dog ate it without any problems. The tablet has a meaty smell. By evening my pet returned to normal. Now I try to carry out prevention every quarter.”
“I have three dogs at home. All different breeds and ages. I always carry out deworming, but usually I used another remedy. My friends drew my attention to Dironet. The product is cheaper, but the effect is the same. I liked it, now we only use it.”
Veterinarians
“I used to prescribe Drontal or Cestal for parasites. Then she turned her attention to Dironet. It is very convenient that it comes in different forms. It can be used from three weeks of age. There are no side effects. It is important to measure the exact dose to prevent poisoning.”
“Dironet is excellent for preventing dirofilariasis. For puppies, I usually prescribe a more gentle remedy; I think that Dironet is not suitable for such babies, although it is allowed.”
What to replace it with?
The drug Dironet has several analogues:
- Prazicide. The method of application and action are similar to the drug Dironet. The cost is slightly lower and is available in tablets and suspensions.
- Milbemax. The drug is suitable for small breed dogs.
- Dehinel Plus. Available only in tablet form. The drug has a pronounced taste of meat, dogs absorb it with pleasure without special tricks.
- Vacation.
Before choosing analogues of the prescribed drug, make sure that the composition does not contain substances to which the dog may have an allergic reaction.
