Stop cystitis, for dogs, table. 200 mg, pack. 20 tablets

Urological problems in a beloved dog are a nightmare for any owner. They are usually discovered in the later stages, when the pet is already urinating blood. In addition, they are expensive to examine, difficult to treat, and pathologies of the urinary system tend to constantly recur.

But it's not that bad. Symptoms will not recur with proper treatment, following doctor’s recommendations and taking preventative medications. The best of these drugs is Stop Cystitis for Dogs.

In the article we will consider: when and how it is used, in what cases it is prohibited or useless to use, what analogues there are. At the end of the review you will find reviews from animal owners, answers to questions and advice from a veterinarian.

Release form and composition

Stop-cystitis is a drug for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory urological diseases. It is produced by a Russian company (previously called “Api-San”). The drug is produced in 2 forms:

The composition of tablets and suspensions is different. In the first, the main active ingredients are antimicrobial and antispasmodic of synthetic origin, which complement plant components. The solution is made entirely from herbal extracts.

Previously, Apicenna produced a regular suspension: it, like the tablets, included nitroxoline and drotaverine. But then I decided to improve the composition and produce a solution made exclusively from biocomponents.

Composition and expiration date

The composition of the drug includes:

  • nitroxoline is an antibiotic (B-hydroxyquinoline) with a wide spectrum of action against staphylococci, Klebsiella, streptococci, E. coli, etc., has an antifungal effect;
  • drotaverine hydrochloride is an antispasmodic, reduces smooth muscle tone and acts as an analgesic;
  • extracts of diuretic herbs (lingonberry leaves, knotweed grass, birch leaves, nettle, juniper fruits);
  • In addition, the tablets contain binders and volume-forming substances (starch, calcium stearate, etc.), and the suspension contains distilled water, glycerin, calcium sorbate, etc.

It is recommended to store the medicine out of sunlight, at a temperature not exceeding +25°C.

By decision of the manufacturer, drotaverine and nitroxoline are now excluded from the suspension. The drug is produced under the new name Stop Cystitis Bio and contains only plant extracts:

  • goldenrod;
  • nettle;
  • horsetail;
  • barberry, etc.

During storage, the suspension separates and requires shaking before use. The drug is produced in bottles of 30, 50, 100 and 150 ml.

The medicine contains preservatives, and if stored in the refrigerator, the opened bottle can be used for a long time. The suspension sealed by the manufacturer is stored for 2 years if the requirements are met (no solar ultraviolet radiation and temperature 0...+25°C).

Indications for use

Stop cystitis tablets or suspension are prescribed to dogs to normalize and improve the functioning of the urinary system:

  • with urolithiasis;
  • for inflammatory and infectious diseases: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis;
  • to prevent inflammation of the urinary system;
  • after diagnostic procedures: catheterization, cytoscopy;
  • after surgical interventions on the urinary tract, kidneys and removal of urinary stones.

Bio solution is also used in combination with other drugs for urological syndrome.

Pharmacological properties, indications for use

Veterinary specialists prescribe stop-cystitis to animals individually in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract:

  • urethritis;
  • cystitis;
  • nephritis of various etiologies;
  • ICD (urolithiasis);
  • acute, chronic pyelonephritis.

The veterinary drug has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antispasmodic effect, and a mild diuretic effect.

The main active ingredient of the drug (Nitroxoline) is a derivative of 8-hydroxyquinoline. Effective against a number of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, some types of pathogenic fungi that provoke inflammatory processes and cause infections in the genitourinary tract of warm-blooded animals. It has a detrimental effect on streptostaphylococci, ureaplasma, E. coli, and salmonella.

Drotaverine has a miotic, antispasmodic effect, has a vasodilator effect, eliminates spasms of smooth muscles of the urinary tract, bladder tenesmus, and relieves pain during urination.

How it works

Herbal components in tablets and suspensions Stop Cystitis have antiseptic, antispasmodic, diuretic, saluretic and diuretic effects. Additionally, they prevent the formation of urinary stones, dissolve and remove stones, and reduce pain when urinating. So:

  • licorice root, barberry, lingonberry and nettle leaves relieve spasms, prevent the formation of new stones in the bladder and kidneys, and have a diuretic effect;
  • knotweed, birch and horsetail leaves reduce the formation of urinary stones, remove excess chlorine and sodium ions along with urine;
  • Goldenrod and club moss have a diuretic and antiseptic effect.

The capsules, due to the content of substances of synthetic origin, additionally have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties:

  1. Nitroxoline is a derivative of the group of 8-hydroxyquinolines. This is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial substance, effective against staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci, corynebacteria, bacilli, E. coli, Proteus, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Shigella, Enterobacteriaceae, Ureaplasma and protozoan fungi of the genus Candida.
  2. Drotaverine is an antispasmodic and vasodilator. It reduces the tone of the smooth muscles of the urinary tract, relieves pain during urination, and reduces the flow of calcium ions into smooth muscle cells.

The drug is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract: the maximum concentration of active substances is observed after 45-60 minutes. Nitroxoline is excreted unchanged by the kidneys, and drotaverine is absorbed in the liver and leaves the body with urine and feces within 3 days.

Owner reviews

Inna: “In winter, I noticed that my pug, Richard, was going to the toilet with blood. I decided to do without an examination: I simply described the symptoms to the veterinarian and took Stop Cystitis. After 3 days the problems went away, but returned with renewed vigor after 3 months. I had to urgently run to the clinic: they took an x-ray, which showed the presence of stones. Afterwards, an operation was performed: the stones blocked the ureter. It turned out that the medicine has a diuretic effect, and in the presence of sand, it can aggravate the situation. So you can’t take the solution without testing - it will only harm your pet.”

Nikolai: “We took a solution for a dog - she had problems with her bladder: she often urinated, there was purulent discharge. Convenient to give: the package contains a measuring syringe. After a few days my health improved and there were no side effects.”

Alena: “Our 3-month-old cockerel got into the habit of cooling her belly on the cold floor in the summer. The result is natural: I started squatting often. At the veterinary clinic they did an ultrasound, took urine for analysis and diagnosed him with cystitis. They prescribed antibiotics, vitamins and, in addition, Stop Cystitis. We chose it in the form of a suspension, since it is more convenient to give. A week later, the dog’s condition improved, and the frequent urges disappeared. Now we are finishing the second bottle, the little one is cheerful and doesn’t complain about anything.”

Answers to frequently asked questions

Is it possible to give Stop Cystitis for prevention without examination in a clinic?

Any drug is prescribed strictly according to indications. It is important to understand that the drug increases urination: if the dog has large stones, they will block the bladder or ureter. And giving tablets containing antimicrobial and antispasmodic substances is the same as randomly taking antibiotics.

We have been giving our dog Stop Cystitis for several months, but the symptoms do not go away. What else can be done?

In case of prolonged cystitis, which cannot be treated with antimicrobial agents, urine is donated for a culture tank. This is necessary to determine the type of infectious agent, its resistance to antibiotics and to select a drug to which pathogenic microorganisms are sensitive.

Is it possible to give Stop Cystitis at the same time as other medications?

Yes, the drug is compatible with any medications, vitamin and mineral supplements and feed.

They gave the dog pills, and soon she was drooling heavily. Is this an allergy? Should the drug be discontinued?

Hypersalivation during the first doses is a normal side reaction. It does not require discontinuation of the drug or treatment; after a while it goes away on its own.

Dosage, instructions for use

Despite the low toxicity of the drug, the veterinary drug, frequency of administration, and dosage should be prescribed by the attending veterinarian. The duration of treatment depends on the general physiological state of the animals, age, individual characteristics of the body, form, stage of urological diseases.

Stop Cystitis is administered to dogs individually, given along with food, or administered using a dispenser syringe behind the cheek, with the mouth wide open. The tablets can be placed on the root of your favorite pet’s tongue or crushed into powder and given with your favorite treat.

Important! For therapeutic purposes, Stop Cystitis is given to animals twice a day, for preventive purposes – once every five to seven days.

According to the instructions, the suspension is given to animals, adhering to the following dosage:

  1. For dogs weighing up to 10 kg, miniature and decorative breeds – 2 ml at a time. Daily dose – 4 ml.
  2. From 10 to 20 kg – 2.5-3.0 ml.
  3. From 21 to 30 kg – 3.0-4 ml.
  4. From 31 to 42 kg – 4.5-6 ml.

For representatives of giant breeds, if the body weight of your beloved pet exceeds 40-45 kg, a single dose is from 6.0 to 8.0 ml.

Advice! Before using the pharmacological agent, shake the bottle of medication well until the sediment completely disappears.

Dogs weighing up to 10 kg - 1 tablet, from 11 to 20 kg - two, from 31 to 41 kg - 2-3 tablets, over 40-45 kg - 3-4 tablets.

Before giving your dog medicine, be sure to carefully read the instructions for the veterinary drug, strictly adhering to the indicated dosage. This will help avoid side effects during treatment. If necessary, to prevent the development of relapses of Stop Cystitis, the course of treatment with veterinary medication will be prescribed again after two to three weeks.

conclusions

Stop-cystitis is a unique drug for the treatment of diseases of the urinary system. This is the only veterinary drug with such a wide spectrum of action and high efficiency.

But I highly recommend not buying and giving it yourself. Any urological problems in a dog require a thorough examination. Pathologies of the urinary tract are varied, and the treatment for each of them is very different: in one case, antibiotic therapy is needed, in another, surgery to remove stones, etc. Therefore, before the appointment, at a minimum, you need to do an x-ray, ultrasound and urine culture.

In addition, the antimicrobial effectiveness of nitroxoline, which is part of the tablets, is extremely low, and uropathogens almost do not react to it. For infections, first of all, you need a course of broad-spectrum antibiotics: fluoroquinols, fosfomycin, ampicillin, etc. And it is advisable to supplement it with Stop-cystitis Bio solution: it will help relieve pain and spasms, prevent the formation of stones, and facilitate urination.

Stop cystitis is simply an additional remedy in the fight against diseases of the urinary system. Do not forget that this or a similar drug can only be given as directed and under the supervision of a veterinarian. And without an accurate diagnosis, proper treatment, changes in living conditions and nutrition, the medicine is completely useless.
