Ovariovit for dogs: instructions for use

Description of the drug Ovariovit

Ovariovit is a veterinary homeopathic drug used for the prevention and treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system of cats, dogs and other animals. The developer of the formula and manufacturer of the drug is Russian.

"AlexAnn" positions itself as Russia's leading manufacturer of veterinary homeopathic drugs

AlexAnn has been operating as an independent organization only since 2005, but this does not indicate the manufacturer’s little experience. In fact, AlexAnn LLC is a subsidiary of the group. Currently, AlexAnn produces dozens of homeopathic medicines for the treatment and prevention of many diseases. In addition to research and its own development, the organization also produces medicines on behalf of Helvet. The company's management claims that modern and reliable equipment makes it possible to produce up to 3 million 10 ml bottles of injection solutions per year.

Release form of the drug

Ovariovit is available in the form of a colorless transparent solution for injection, packaged in transparent glass bottles with a capacity of 10 or 100 ml. Regardless of the volume, each bottle is closed with a rubber stopper and protected by a metal ring. Units with a volume of 10 ml are also packaged in cardboard boxes. Both types of bottles are supplied with instructions for use.

My older cat had female problems and the vet put her on several medications, including Ovariovit. In general, our veterinarian is not a fan of homeopathy, but I asked for a recommendation for such a medicine myself. So, the employees of the veterinary pharmacy, where I went to get the prescribed medications, said that Ovariovit is available in two different packages (the medicine is produced by both Helvet and AlexAnn). Moreover, the formula of the medicine is the same, only the labels differ.

Helvet produces Ovariovit in bottles with a white label (image - 5 animals of different sizes), and AlexAnn - in containers with a yellow and white label (no picture)

Composition of Ovariovit

Ovariovit (1 l) consists of matrix tinctures of plant nature, minerals and organic compounds:

  • turnera diffusa (spreading turner) 0.01 m;
  • aquilegia vulgaris (common columbine) 4.5 µl;
  • pulsatilla pratensis (meadow lumbago) 0.6 nl;
  • aristolochia clematitis (common kirkazon) 3 µl;
  • aurum jodatum trituration (gold iodide powder) 0.1 g;
  • sepia trituration (common cuttlefish) 0.02 mcg;
  • calcium carbonicum trituration (calcium carbonate) 0.1 g;
  • excipients (methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium chloride, sodium acetate trihydrate, hydrochloric acid to pH 5.4, ethyl alcohol, water for injection).

Meadow lumbago, or pulsatilla pratensis, is also known as sleep grass. This plant has been used since ancient times by the Slavs to treat female diseases. In scientific medicine, the use of sleep herb is not practiced, since the plant’s abilities have been little studied, however, women treated with this plant, in most cases, recovered. Biologists believe that the plant affects the pelvic organs, which is how the therapeutic effect is determined. In addition, it is believed that pulsatilla is effective against fungi (for example, Dr. Stern used this plant to treat putrefactive wounds).

Storage conditions for the solution

The instructions for use indicate the following storage conditions:

  • in sealed manufacturer's packaging;
  • in places inaccessible to children;
  • separately from food and feed;
  • in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight;
  • at temperatures from 0 to 30°C;
  • The shelf life of the drug is 3 years from the date of production (after the first opening of the bottle - 21 days).

The ideal place to store Ovariovit is a separate first aid kit for veterinary drugs

No side effects were identified when using Ovariovit.

The drug is not available in tablets. This is a solution in ampoules, which is administered intramuscularly 1 to 3 times a week as prescribed by a veterinarian. The duration of treatment for false pregnancy is 2-3 weeks, for tumor diseases – up to several months.

Ovariovit goes well with all medications, including antitumor ones.

This medicine causes estrus. Drugs with a similar effect include the following:

  • Mastomethrin;
  • Ovarium;
  • Katozal.

To increase the likelihood of fertilization, Ovariovit can be injected before mating, especially when it is necessary to increase the litter. A large number of eggs are produced that are capable of participating in fertilization, i.e. superovulation develops. Normalization of hormonal levels, in particular the hypothalamic-pituitary system, after using this drug contributes to the normal course of pregnancy.

Instructions for use of Ovariovit
It should be borne in mind that the normal sexual cycle of a dog has the following stages:

  • proestrus, during which the follicle develops (10-12 days);
  • estrus – the period of maturation of the egg and its ovulation (10-12 days);
  • diestrus. Lasts about two months and is necessary for the synthesis of progesterone. This is the main risk period for false pregnancy;
  • Anestrus lasting about 4 months is a period of sexual rest, weak ovarian activity.

Symptoms for which treatment should be started:

  • sexual cycles have disappeared or the interval between them has become more than 10 months. This is observed with underdevelopment of the ovaries, pituitary gland or thyroid gland;
  • there is a hidden heat;
  • congenital anesthesia;
  • prolonged estrus, i.e. prolongation of all components of the reproductive cycle.

All of the above factors affect fertilization and require medical intervention.

If the disease is acquired, that is, it arose as a result of a malfunction of the endocrine system, it is necessary to find out the root cause and eliminate it. There will be no effect from symptomatic treatment. Competent therapy, selected by a veterinarian after an appropriate examination, is the key to successful treatment.

According to the instructions for the drug, Ovariovit for cats is suitable for the treatment of hormonal imbalances, inflammation of the uterus, obesity and urinary incontinence in castrated cats. In addition, the use of this drug is prescribed for false pregnancy and the occurrence of cysts in the ovaries, dermatoses and leukemia, cycle disorders and insufficiency of ovarian function, embryonic mortality. One of the key properties of this medication is that it allows you to normalize reproductive function.

The range of effectiveness of Ovariovit is quite wide for the mentioned problems. The drug has the following effects:

  • normalizes the hormonal levels of the animal’s body;
  • stimulates the production of gonadotropic hormones;
  • helps regulate the functions of the pituitary-hypothalamic system;
  • normalizes and restores ovarian function, stimulates the growth and maturation of follicles;
  • helps eliminate psychological disorders due to hormonal imbalances or false pregnancy.

Instructions for use of Ovariovit
It is noteworthy that, unlike many modern medicines, Ovariovit is not a hormonal drug, but belongs to the group of combined homeopathic ones. According to the pharmacological classification, according to GOST, this drug is classified as low-hazard (fourth hazard class) and does not have a sensitizing or irritating effect. For this reason, there are practically no contraindications to its use, with the exception of individual intolerance to individual components.

Indications for use of Ovariovit

Ovariovit is prescribed in the following cases:

  • false pregnancy (including its prevention);
  • absence of estrus, disturbance of the sexual cycle;
  • hypofunction or hyperfunction of the ovaries;
  • follicular formations;
  • chronic endometritis;
  • to increase fertility;
  • in the postoperative period (prevention of post-castration complications);
  • for the prevention of embryonic mortality.

Mechanism of action of the drug

Ovariovitis has a complex effect on the female genitourinary system. It stimulates the pituitary gland and ovaries and affects the development of the follicle. The drug normalizes the cat’s hormonal balance, although it is not hormonal itself. Ovariovit is especially often prescribed for the consequences of hormone use. Cat owners sometimes use medications to suppress estrus, and the components contained in birth control medications can lead to inflammation of the uterus, neoplasms in the mammary gland, and even diabetes. Therefore, the homeopathic drug Ovariovit is recommended for use as part of complex therapy.

In addition, Ovariovit has a beneficial effect on the functioning of the ovaries - their function is restored, sexual cyclicity returns to normal, and fertility increases.

Description, composition and release form

The homeopathic remedy “Ovariovit” is intended for and is intended for disorders in the functioning of the reproductive system of females. It regulates the functioning of such areas of the brain as the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thereby normalizing the functionality of the ovaries, and also reduces the likelihood of embryo death during.

The drug is non-hormonal, therefore it gently regulates ovarian dysfunction and balances the animal’s hormonal levels. The medicine promotes the active development of follicles and eggs in them, and also activates the work of the pituitary and reproductive systems.

Instructions for use of Ovariovit

Important! Most often, the remedy can be indicated to an animal if its hormonal levels have previously been disrupted by the use of various hormonal, in particular those containing progesterone, drugs.

Natural components of natural origin are what is contained in Ovariovit. The composition of the drug includes:

  • essential oil of Turnera procumbens (also known as Damiana);
  • medicinal plant kirkazon vulgaris (clematis);
  • perennial herbaceous plant blackening lumbago (meadow);
  • sepia from cuttlefish ink sac;
  • iodide gold;
  • calcium carbonate.

Features of the use of Ovariovit in cats

Ovariovit can only be used as a subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. The effectiveness of application depends on several factors:

  • correct selection of dosage;
  • well-designed treatment plan;
  • use together with other prescribed drugs, etc.

Some people consider the fact that Ovariovit is available in a single dosage form to be a minus, but the manufacturer has taken into account all the nuances associated with the use of the medicine and provided the bottle with a cap with notches for easy opening

Table: selection of medication dosage

Cat body weightSingle dose
1 kgFrom 0.5 to 1 ml
From 1 to 3 kgFrom 1.5 to 3 ml
From 3 to 5 kgFrom 2.5 to 5 ml
From 5 to 10 kgfrom 5 to 10 ml

Table: treatment regimens

Indications for useNumber of injectionsDuration of treatment
False pregnancy1 time per day1–1.5 months
Absence of estrus, irregular sexual cycles1–2 times a week1 month (course can be repeated after 6 months)
Consequences of using hormonal drugs2–3 times a week1–1.5 months
Chronic endometritis21 day
Preparation for mating2 weeks
Prevention of complications after castration in females2 times per week1 month (after surgery)
Prevention of miscarriages2 times (5 and 10 days after pregnancy)

The treatment regimen may depend on the age of the cat, its physical condition, the accuracy of the diagnosis, etc. Therefore, if you are treating the cat yourself, then consult a veterinarian (he will adjust the regimen).

My friends have a young Thai cat suffering from strabismus (in the first litter, most of the kittens adopted the “bad” trait from their mother). Therefore, it was decided to have an ovariohysterectomy (removal of the uterus and ovaries). The family doesn’t have a lot of money, so they had to go to a “cheaper” clinic. A few months after the surgery, the cat went into heat. The owners decided that this was a complication and bought homeopathic medicines (including Ovariovit), but the medicines did not help - the heats became even more regular. A trusted veterinarian, whom I recommended to them, did an ultrasound and declared - retained ovary syndrome. It turned out that the operating clinic did its job in bad faith, and the owners made a mistake with the diagnosis.

Before using Ovariovit, consult your veterinarian (at least by phone)

Is it possible to give a cat an injection yourself?

You can also give your cat a subcutaneous injection yourself. Here is the sequence of actions:

  1. Prepare the bottle (bend the edges of the notches on the cap, wipe the opened part of the rubber stopper with alcohol).
  2. Prepare a syringe (attach the needle to the syringe without removing the cap from it - do not touch the needle).
  3. Remove the cap from the needle and draw the required amount of solution into the syringe with a reserve.
  4. Lift the syringe with the needle up and release all the air from it (you can lightly tap the syringe so that the air bubbles can be released).
  5. When a drop appears at the tip of the needle, the syringe should be put aside (so that the needle does not touch any surfaces).
  6. Secure the cat so that it is convenient to grab it by the withers (the area of the skin between the back of the head and the shoulder blades).
  7. Insert a needle into the resulting fold to a depth of 1–1.5 cm (depending on the size of the cat).
  8. Smoothly inject the solution, pull out the needle and release the withers (no need to rub the injection site).
  9. To calm the cat down, you can pet it.

A subcutaneous injection can be made not only in the withers, but also in the knee fold, but this injection site is preferable in cases where the skin in the withers area is damaged (for example, there is a wound).

An intramuscular injection can also be done independently, but most cat owners prefer injections into the withers. The fact is that a convenient place for an intramuscular injection is the back surface of the upper thigh. The pet will have to be held by the withers (this makes it easier to immobilize), while the cat will tuck its paws under itself. Therefore, help from household members may be required.

If you are not confident in your abilities, you can contact any veterinary clinic. The facility's staff will administer the injection in appropriate sanitary conditions, quickly and inexpensively. I had to carry my cat for injections (1 injection costs approximately 100–150 rubles, but it depends on the clinic).

Ovariovit can be injected subcutaneously (into the withers or knee fold) or intramuscularly (into the back of the upper thigh)

Precautionary measures

When working with Ovariovit, it is recommended to follow several rules:

If during the procedure the medicine gets on your skin, eyes or mucous membranes, you should rinse these areas with plenty of water.

If you are hypersensitive to any components of the drug, try to avoid getting the drug on your skin. The same applies to people who are allergic to any components in Ovariovit.

Important! If the product comes into direct contact with your skin and you experience an allergic reaction, go to the hospital immediately, and be sure to show the doctor the drug label or instructions for use.

Empty bottles of used product must be destroyed. Their storage and use for any domestic purposes is unacceptable.

Interaction with other drugs

Ovariovit is used in combination with the following drugs:

  • antibiotics, interferons, anthelmintics, probiotics and other drugs intended for etiotropic therapy;
  • hormonal, enzyme and “heart” drugs, vitamins, hepatoprotectors, neuroleptics and other pathogenetic agents;

  • the only form of release;
  • The shelf life after opening the bottle is reduced to 3 weeks.

Instructions for use

The solution is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. To calculate a single dose, it should be taken into account that 0.1 ml of the product is required per 1 kilogram of weight, but the maximum dose should not exceed 4 ml.

Depending on the nature and complexity of the problem, injections are given from 1-2 times a day to 2-3 times a week, and treatment can last from 4 days to 3 months, but is determined by a doctor after undergoing an examination. When using the drug, you should strictly adhere to the instructions for use.

Features of use for diseases of the reproductive system

Depending on the disease and the nature of the problem, the drug is used according to the following scheme:

  1. In case of false pregnancy, injections are first given daily (once a day) for 4-6 days, and then every other day (3-4 injections). The course of treatment can be increased to 3 weeks.
  2. To prevent false pregnancy after the end of estrus, injections are given once every 3-4 days for 4-6 weeks.
  3. If the drug is used for recovery after hormonal therapy, injections are given 2-3 times a week. The course lasts from 4 to 6 weeks.
  4. To increase the bitch's chances of becoming pregnant during mating, 2-4 injections will be required, starting from the first day of estrus. A time interval of 2-3 days is required between injections.
  5. In the absence of estrus or disruption of sexual cycles, injections should be given 1-2 times a week for 4-5 weeks.
  6. If the product is used to prevent embryo mortality, injections should be given on the 5th and 10th day after mating.
  7. To protect the female from side effects from sterilization, after the operation, an injection is given every three days for one month.
  8. For endometritis that occurs in a chronic form, Ovariovit is used in conjunction with Mastomethrin. Homeopathic injections are given 2-3 times a week for 3 weeks.

It is not recommended to skip taking the drug, as this may cause a decrease in its effectiveness. If it was not possible to give the injection on time, you should restore the treatment and return to the previously used regimen at the first opportunity. Ovariovit can be used with other medications.

Despite the fact that the drug is considered safe because it consists of natural ingredients, you should consult a veterinarian before use. You should not self-medicate.
