Pharmacological properties
9. Prazicide-complex refers to combined antiparasitic drugs.
10. Ivermectin, which is part of the drug, has a wide spectrum of action, is active against the larval and mature phases of development of intestinal nematodes and cestodes, fleas, lice, lice, sarcoptic, demodectic and ixodid ticks that parasitize dogs and cats.
The mechanism of action of the drug ivermectin is a disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of the parasite.
The action of praziquantel is based on inhibition of fumarate reductase, persistent depolarization of muscle cells, disruption of energy metabolism, which causes paralysis and death of helminths.
Levamisole has nematocidal activity and also exhibits immunostimulating properties by increasing the number of T-lymphocytes.
Thiamethoxam is a compound from the group of nicotinoids and has a contact and intestinal insectoacaricidal effect. Being an antagonist of nicotine acetylcholine receptors, it causes hyperpolarization of arthropod nerve fiber membranes, which leads to the death of parasites.
Prazicide-complex, in terms of the degree of impact on the body, belongs to moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007-76), when applied to the skin in recommended doses, it does not have a resorptive-toxic, locally irritating, embryotoxic, teratogenic or sensitizing effect . Upon contact with mucous membranes, it causes mild irritation. The drug is toxic to fish and bees.
Application of Prazicide for dogs
As for the previously discussed tablets, they can only be used orally (the same can be said about the suspension). All this is usually consumed only once a day, and during a meal in the morning. As for the use of large tablets, difficulties may arise with this, since the dog will definitely not eat it entirely. The best option would be to grind the tablets into powder and place it, for example, in minced meat.
The only condition is that the powder particles should not get lost. All products must be used strictly according to the instructions, and the dosage is selected only based on the weight of the pet. The powder can even be diluted in water, because this method has many advantages. The fact is that by resorting to it, you will avoid problems with dosage, and this applies even to small dogs.
As for taking the suspension, according to the manufacturer, it should be squeezed directly onto the animal’s tongue, or more precisely, onto its root, which is not always possible. It’s easier to just let it lick it off, which almost always works out for the reasons mentioned earlier (the product has a pleasant taste for the pet).
Medicine dosage
The dosage of the suspension depends entirely on the puppy, and even the breed matters, because:
- pocket puppies require only 1 ml per 1 kg of body weight;
- other breeds (medium and large) require only 1 ml per 2 kg;
- adult puppies require only 1 ml per 3 kg.
It is quite difficult to calculate everything correctly and without errors, but it is better to spend more time on this than to worry about the health of your pet later.
All that remains to be discussed is the use of drops intended for the withers. You will need to part the dog's fur in the area between the shoulder blades, then apply the drug there and begin to gently distribute it with your free hand over the entire skin in this area. Do not rub the drops in under any circumstances! The dosage of the drops also depends on the mass, but it is distributed slightly differently. Manufacturers have divided dogs into groups, each of which requires different amounts of medication:
- 5 kg and less - 1 ml of medicine;
- 5-10 kg - 1.7 ml of product;
- 10-20 kg - 2.5 ml;
- 20-30 - 3.5 ml.
It is important to understand that if your dog’s body weight exceeds 30 kg, then the dosage is individual.

Principle of action and indications for use
The combination of praziquantel+pyrantel or praziquantel+pyrantel+febantel for oral forms of the drug has pronounced synergism. The substances enhance each other’s actions, leading to paralysis of the parasitic worm, its death and removal from the animal’s body.
Praziquantel affects the membranes of parasite cells, increasing their permeability to calcium, pyrantel is a ganglion blocker, and interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses in the nerve-muscle system. This leads to paralysis of the helminth.
Febantel, together with praziquantel, inhibits the synthesis of fumarate reductase, the main element that allows the parasite to actively absorb glucose. The worm goes on a starvation diet, the synthesis of the main protein of its microtubular apparatus of cells is disrupted, and the parasite dies.
The product for external use (Prasitsid-Complex) is not without synergistic qualities. The drug is effective against nematodes and cestodes thanks to the combination of ivermectin + praziquantel + levamisole. This combination leads to paralysis and rapid death of the parasitic worm. Praziquantel provides him with a “starvation diet”. It also leads to disruption of energy exchange in the muscles of the helminth and its paralysis. The latter quality is supported by ivermectin, which disrupts nerve conduction in nematode tissues.
Levamisole has some activity against roundworms, and the qualities of an immunomodulator, stimulating an increase in the production of T-lymphocytes by the animal's body. Healthy cats and dogs ingest parasitic cysts every day. But not everyone develops the disease. Strengthening the general resistance of the body is a non-specific method of combating the parasitism of worms in the animal’s body and on skin parasites.
Thiamethoxam is a nicotinoid, and it is fatal for arthropods. It causes excessive polarization of the membranes of the insect's nervous tissue and their death.

The manufacturer is Api-San, who made sure that the product can be used both for an adult cat and for a small kitten that has picked up helminths.
Drops Prazitsid complex
If it is convenient to use drops, then there is also an option for external use. They are dripped onto the withers, ticks, fleas and various ectoparasites also die.
The drops are light yellow and are sold in small polymer pipettes. Each contains its own dosage, as there is a prazicide complex for adult cats and for kittens. This determines the safety of using a product with the third hazard class.
Suspension plus
The action of the suspension is based on three active components: pyrantel pamoate, praziquantel and fenbendazole. The color of the solution is light yellow, the drug is sold in polymer bottles, dosed in the range of 5-15 ml.
There is a suspension developed for kittens, which is expressed in a change in the concentration of the active components.
Pills
Pyrantel pomoate and praziquantel are to blame for the effectiveness of the tablets. The tablets look familiar in white or white-gray with a round shape.
The tablets are small in size with a weight of 0.2 mg and are packaged in blisters, 6 pieces each.
Composition of the Prazitel suspension
Before you buy a drug for worms, you should read its composition.
The Prazitel suspension consists of almost a dozen ingredients, but there are only two active ingredients: pyrantel pamoate (30 mg) and praziquantel (3 mg), the rest are auxiliary. Please note that Prazitel is also available in tablet form
"Prasitel" is a yellowish suspension with a sweetish taste and a not very pronounced, medicinal odor. After stirring, the suspension looks homogeneous and should not separate.
The drug is packaged in individual 15 ml bottles (for kittens and cats). Vials (bottles) are made of dark plastic, which protects the suspension from direct sunlight. The suspension usually comes with a dispenser syringe.
Spectrum of action of "Prasitel"
Prazitel suspension is considered a complex drug with a wide spectrum of action.
The active ingredients of the suspension affect:
- Toxascaris leonina, Toxocara mystax – cause toxocariasis.
- Uncinaria stenocephala is the causative agent of uncinariasis.
- Ancylostoma is the causative agent of hookworm infection.
- Trichuris vulpis - causes trichuriasis.
- Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis are the causative agents of echinococcosis.
- Taenia, Multiceps multiceps are taenia worms that cause various, always severe, diseases.
- Mesocestoides lineatus is the causative agent of mesocestoidosis.
- Diphyllobothrium latum is a broad tapeworm that parasitizes the intestines.
- Dipylidium caninum is a cucumber tapeworm, the most common parasite in cats, the causative agent of dipylidia.
Pyrantel pamoate, contained in Prazitel, blocks the transmission of nerve impulses in the parasite’s body. Disruption of nervous activity leads to malfunction of cell membranes, intoxication, paralysis and death of worms.
The active substance accumulates in the cat's blood plasma. The maximum therapeutic effect is achieved within 2–4 hours, subject to calculating the optimal dose of the suspension.
Praziquantel, the second active ingredient of Prazitel, disrupts the absorption of glucose in parasites, which leads to an increase in the permeability of intercellular membranes. Calcium ions begin to actively penetrate the body of parasites, which disrupts the functioning of the nervous system, leading to its paralysis and death.
Pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel accumulate in the blood plasma, but the concentration is maintained for no more than 48 hours. Usually, within 24–48 hours after taking the drug, all of its residues are eliminated from the body with waste products unchanged.
Analogues of the drug
The active ingredients pyrantel pamoate and praziquantel are included in many deworming products for cats and dogs. Analogs of Prazitel are available in the form of suspensions and tablets.
